How good is PeerBlock actually???

As the topic states how good is Peerblock actually??

Just a wondering, I ain't downloading nothing I swear :D :D :D :D

It does work AFAIK. It blocks known IPs of organizations that monitor P2P traffic.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Don't use Torrents unless you absolutely have to. Torrents are a last resort these days.

Because 1) they are unsecured by default and your IP address can be logged and 2) they are being targetted by copyright enforcement agencies who have been known to send out letters to your ISP threatening legal action against you and 3) you are in danger of violating the copyright act 1974 of South Africa by sharing or distributing the copyrighted content.

If you used Usenet you would have a triple line of defense. 1) Usenet is basically just text file transfer, the file is only decoded on your PC. 2) There is no sharing of content only direct downloading. 3) You can enable SSL encryption at the click of a check box. See the Usenet link in my sig.

I've never felt the need for something like PeerBlock. And, like Gary said, these days 99% of my downloads are Usenet in any case - just easier.

Aren't you violating that same law if you rip music to your pc or transfer music to a mobile device?

Yes, but they are less likely to go after you for that since you already have paid for the content and are just format shifting.

Now do you think "they" will come after me for apparently downloading pirated music etc? :wtf:

Mmm ok. Guess things have changed. Still I avoid torrents for the reasons mentioned above.
