How healthy are nuts?

In its simplistic form, nuts are not really fattening. Its best to have 50g of nuts a day, but this is depending on the type of nut that you are having. Its a great snack to also have while studying or brain intensive work.

The best nut in my opinion is cashew nuts. You will also notice that a lot of diets requires that you eat this as a healthy snack in between meals. An small handful would suffice - but it needs to be the plain unsalted ones. They do contain fat - but its healthy fat. The reason for eating them is because they have a high contents of protein as well. You need fat in your diet - healthy fat that is - and this is why they recommend to eat a little bit of nuts every day.

very interesting posts Jamal, with some good info - thank you!

I enjoy nuts, but the manufacturers seem to put salt on everything, including the ones with raisins.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Fat has an undeservedly bad reputation. I wouldn't be too concerned with fructose either. You invariably have to eat an extremely skewed diet in order to have problems.

What's fattening depends on your genetics and current balance of macronutrients.

If you prefer them unsalted you buy the unsalted ones. For me it's salted nuts all the way.

Pecan nuts are good for the brains, cos they look like brains.
Tomotoes are good for the heart cos its red like blood and also got 4 chambers.
Pineapples and carrots are good for the eyes cos if you cut them across and look at it, it has rings like the eyes.
Wanted to start a thread with this but didn't.

Thank you for all this info... on nuts... I'm definitely going to read the info you posted.
