How I hate crap developers

Watch that blood pressure man. Not worth it.

I think the calm comes with age. I have been coding 25 years now. I don't see point in ranting when someone does something in a way I don't think is the right way (I used to though). I just fix it, test, and move on. More often than not the devs will ask why I changed it and I will explain. Everyone learns something and none of us have high blood pressure.
And even after 25 years I learn new stuff all the time from my colleagues. No-one can ever know it all and you should rather help build the skills instead of flipping your lid. You may just live longer ;)

I can only hope to be as calm as you one day. I sometimes look at code and force a smile but my brain explodes and I can vividly see myself punching people in the face! Not that I am perfect (I learn every day).

Yes i do remember your rants about a certain python developer...

Dude, when you hear some people tell you "ya, [my senior] told me not to use the standard libraries because it is new and we don't have time to learn it. So I am doing it my own way trying to figure it out but I need some help because I'm stuck", how can you not lose it. The only reason it is "new" is because he and his senior haven't taken the time to use it in the last 6 months.

I'm telling you, most developers out there really just don't give a crap.

Sounds like an interesting story haha..

Lol...

Only devs I don't dig are ones with egos. Hard to reason with.
But that goes for pretty much anyone I suppose.

Oh man the amount of ego's on hamsters team is amazing.

Yeah but put it into context. If you consider the size of the team you are bound to get one or two guys thinking they are God's gift to this Earth.

I remember about 6 people who thought that of themselves

I thought for one moment you were talking about shoddy building contractors. That is the norm in SA

To me the clock watchers are the most "dangerous". I'd much rather work with an average developer that takes pride in his work than with a genius that drops everything when the clock strikes 17:00. You'd get way more done with that eager less knowledgable dev.

So you would rather work with someone that takes 16 hours to do what a clock watcher can do in 8 hours. I find clockwatcher devs to be more disciplined with their time and less likely to arse around and actually do put in their 40 hours.

Best devs I've had the pleasure of working for are all clock watchers. The worst devs are those that do not respect time.

And what exactly is wrong with a guy wanting to leave work at 17:00 is it a sin to actually want to have a life beyond the job? Shame pretty brain washed mentality but i know it was very common there. Work smarter not harder and the job will be done faster.

+1

I love coding, been my longest passion but I've got a wife and kids that I love more.

Wait. If you can do that job in 8 hours that is different. I was more referring to guys dropping everything and going home instead of just sticking around for another 40 mins and finishing things off. It's not like you need to do it everyday, but when there is a serious deadline and you turn around and they are just gone :(

Most programmers on this planet are not actually cut out for the job. They're just not intelligent enough so they take "shortcuts" to try keep up with expectations. Same goes for IT/development managers. Anyone with an IQ less than 130 shouldn't bother with this field although at 130 it's mostly janitorial work.

You know all IQ means is how bright people are compared to other people right? I've taken a couple in the past, ranging between 110-130 if I remember correctly, so not really accurate I'd say. If you compare the brain of a developer to that of a lawyer, the developer is going to be the "dof" one and vice versa, just my 2 cents

As for "crap developers" I'm most probably one of those, only recently started in the field, I unlike most people in here am not a master at coding from day one:p

I remember that, being forced to do other peoples work and where were they... no where to be scene they had left at 16:00.. but then i stopped giving a **** and resigned, best decision i ever made.:D

Why should they stick around if they are not being paid? Poor management of staff resources should never be a devs problem. Also you do not always understand their circumstances as to why they are clock watchers.

They don't care where he works trust me on that one.
