Hi
The information in this post will seem obvious to most of you on Mybroadband.
I thought that I’d post this information in the hope the it may help other people who are having problems with 3G connections.
I’ve used Vodacom 3G for 3 or 4 years using their Huawei K3715 modem. In that time I’ve been plagued by slow speeds and dropped connections. The first improvement was installing a Poynting Antenna and sleeve type modem adaptor. This worked quite well, but was still slow and still dropped now and again.
A few weeks ago I got a Huawei E367 modem (from Autopage). This has an antenna port so I was able to make a direct antenna to modem connection using the correct pigtail from Poynting. The difference it has made to the 3G operation is incredible. I am using both Vodacom and MTN SIMs in the E367 and the speed is better than before. I have not had a dropped connection and there is a 97 to 98%, -77db signal strength.
The conclusion is, get a good antenna and make a direct connection between it and your modem.
