With all the brouhaha in various threads on the forum, maybe it's time to take stock and conjecture on the importance of the home and SBE user to a telecoms company.

Which would a telecoms company rather have - 20 million small users, without expertise, who generate 20% of income, or 100 really large users, with specialist departments of trained personnel, who generate 80% of income?

How importent is the small user to Telkom?
Never mind the small user. As long as there is no alternative, they won't care about *any* user.

But to answer the question: Large corporate clients are much better. Then they only deal with competent techies and don't have to field a billion helpline questions by grannies.

Exactly. Now let's ask :

Why has Neotel not rolled out SBE and home products?

Which group do the majority of formites fall into? And why would Telkom take any notice of threats to move? They would probably rejoice!

Good point. Which is why the only hope for small users is total liberalisation of the industry. Let the small ISPs compete for the small user.
