How is the GWM C10 ??

Do you really want to go that route?

I currently have a customer who has bought from me in the past desperately trying to trade one in - he bought it in April and is bitterly disappointed.

Not recommended.
 
I wonder how it drives..... Drove a GWM bakkie about a year ago and I was not impressed.
 
Was a passenger in one this morning , seems very nice. Very basic. Just going to be used as a run-about vehicle .. low kilo's

Neighbor of ours went this route. Bought a GWM 4x4 double cab for something like R140K secondhand. A year later the engine went, R60K worth of damage. He tried to trade it in before that but struggled to get more than R70K at dealers.

GWM is cheap rubbish. If you want to take the chance, then don't feel sorry for yourself when things go wrong.
 
At what stage can one start to trust asian car brand? Because when Hyundai and Kia launched a couple of years ago it was also dismissed as crap but these days its winning car of the year awards. And I am sure 50 years ago Toyota was also dismissed as crap. What is the rule of thumb to know crap have become decent?

There's a difference between Korean and Japanese (Good) and Chinese (Shyte)

The Korean cars while they've improved a hell of a lot they aren't quite there yet.
 
It is piece of trash. Anyone who has even the slightest knowledge of and interest in cars will tell you it's a piece of trash. If you buy one in spite of anyone knowing anything telling you it's a piece of trash you deserve everything that'll soon be headed your way.

I cannot grasp how any person who isn't genuinely slow-minded can even contemplate spending his or her hard-earned money on such utter rubbish.

Hyundai and Kia were very cheap and nasty and it took them at least 15 years to up their game in the South African market.
I drive a 2010 Kia Cerato and the build quality is good - it feels like a solid vehicle.
The con is that the Korean vehicles still need a bit more refinement in the suspension (twitchy steering), driving experience (grabby clutch and throttle response is too sensitive) and gearbox technology (old style automatic transmissions).
If they get those areas right they'll be on par with VW IMO.

I'd give GWM another 5 to 10 years and then re-evaluate.
