Just did a speedtest with the following results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2100632167.png

That's a ping of 47ms, 4.06Mbps down, 1.80Mbps up - not too bad overall. Only thing is it can't even deliver the 512kbps Supersport recommends for live streaming. There have been some suggestions it has to do with 8ta not peering in SA but, seriously, how card could it be for 8ta to fix this?!!!!

Really not cool 8ta.

Firstly you must understand that it's perfectly possible with 3G to get 4Mbps one second and 400Kbps the next. It can be due to RF interference from other sources, congestion in the cell or even congestion further down the pipe.

Secondly, I think it's a bit unfair to place the blame squarely on Telkom. How certain are you that Supersport / Multichoice is not to blame ? If Youtube streaming is superior, then it is because Google invested heavily in a content delivery network.

*DStv On Demand online is available to Premium subscribers within South African borders with both capped and uncapped internet connection. Given the amounts of data consumed we recommend an uncapped internet connection without ever having to worry about your data cap or additional data cost. We recommend a 512kbs uncapped ADSL line.

Care to guess what gets prioritized on MWeb uncapped and why they would like to spread this load over Telkoms backbone for free?

What ever the reasons may be I expect 8ta to aim to deliver the best possible service to their clients. At the moment their service is pretty crap.
