hey guys i'm trying to find out if my latency/lag/delay is normal or if it's bad and something is wrong. i keep seeing posts by south africans saying they get no lag at all on their 384k adsl (what i have, and it is unshaped and wired with cybersmart). and what i have can hardly be considered no lag :P I managed to measure it and it's around 0.45 seconds delay from clicking to unit response (not present offline of course). I did a ping test to sweden (i think that's where the servers are?) and i got around 200ms, 0% packet loss and 3% jitter. if i run a tracert these are my results:

I'm not sure why i'm getting those stars in beginning now i don't think that was happening yesterday o.O It seems a little different each time i do it. I don't entirely know what this means either, I don't know if i have to add all the numbers up or what.

I'm interested to know if people think this is reasonable and if anyone else is having similar latency issued. it's not unplayable but it makes micro almost impossible =\ *watches another reaper bite the dust* xD

200-300 ms is about normal, and micro isn't at all hard on 200 ping. You just got to play enough to get used to it.

I usually just ping jolt.co.uk to see how im pinging to EU, gives accurate and consistent results and is inline with the EU Bnet servers.

Line speed doesnt affect the ping, Im on 10mbps and i get 195-205ms ping on average to EU with a WebAfrica Titan account... The biggest factor is your ISP. WA are brilliant for gaming overseas. SC2 FTW:)

cool thanks guys :) as long as i'm on par with everyone else then i don't feel too bad xD but surely 200ms equals 0.2 seconds delay and not 0.45 which is what i'm getting? =\ cos micro-ing with almost half a second delay really is a bit difficult :P 0.2 seconds would be great! i'd also hate to be "that guy" who's slowing everyone else down in a 2v2 or higher o.O lol!

actually ms ping might be misleading, maybe i should just ask if anyone else is getting around a half a second of delay while playing SC2 online?

Have not noticed any lag in sc2, and i have played on afrihost, telkom and webafrica unshaped accounts

i almost never have lag,but since i'm with mweb and their connection can be unstable at times i get a half second delay now and then.

cool thanks guys, i managed to measure it while i'm playing and i got a very constant 190ms, so i'm not too sure what's wrong... i even tried it with the 3g on my phone just out of interest and i got 420ms and in game it felt more like a full second of delay o.O

I've Noticed that the custom games are laggier than league games, if that is of any consolation :P

@Fresh, when micro'ing I also feel that half second delay - even though latency's ~200. Really makes kiting painful :/

@joy - i think i've noticed that as well, i thought i found it spikier than league games. but the delay i find to be roughly the same =\

@conack - yeah man i feel your pain, lost a few too many reapers that way xD what ISP are you with? unshaped?

i gave the TCPackfreq registry hack a go yesterday but it made no difference to the reported latency or the in game delay -.- i wish blizzard tech support would hurry up and reply o.O i'm sure it has nothing to do with anything on blizzards side, i'm fairly certain it's not my connection since 3 different ways of reporting the ping all give me around 200ms so the only thing left is some kind of local pc or router setting but i just can't figure out what =\
