I think you misunderstood me or I should have not used a generalised term for American society. My point was that the average American does not support changes in his/her lifestyle easily, I never meant they were lazy, far from it. In referring to their greedy attitude I was referring to government policy (read Republican rich elite) of acting selfishly by promoting reckless economic practises all to gain the quick profit. Wall street was left unregulated as in 1929 to do as it pleased, thus creating the current recession America faces.
I think the lesson is don't allow entities to get too big. That includes government which in the U.S has now gone just as bonkers and reckless as the banks.
