Hi.

I signed up for Telkom ADSL service on Saturday 6 June. They told me that I may have to wait for up to 21 days for them to come and install it. I stay in Durban and was wandering how long it took you guys to get your Telkom ADSL line installed. Will it really take 21 days or less, please let me know !

Mine took about 3 weeks. My advice to you are phone them almost every day. When phoning take down names and dates they give you. Find out if there will be enough ports available on your exchange.
And before I forget good luck. You might need it ;)
 
Thanks man. Will do. 21 days just seems too long to wait, it's damn frustrating, I wish it only took a week.
 
I applied in May, was told please wait till the 29th July for port upgrade (took them 2 weeks to tell me that), meaning I will likely only see ADSL in August. (Northgate area).

Trying to get them to understand please just install the phone ASAP then worry but the ADSL later, was a mission. I literally placed another order for a phone line just to get a line while I wait for ADSL to become available. Was told once I get my phone line please phone in and cancel your ADSL + phone line order and place a upgrade order in.

Order 1 – Phone + ADSL (installation date – after July/August)
Order 2 – Phone line (installation date 11 June)
 
I was dreading these horror stories, nooooooooo, don't tell me things like this, I was hoping to hear wonderful stories like :

"Yes, my ADSL service took 3 days to install, Telkom were so brilliantly fast when it came to installing it for me. They gave me a thumbs up a smile and an extra 10GB cap for being a good customer ! I love Telkom !"

Suddenly my life has turned from full colour to only black and white...oh ADSL...were art thou...
 
trust me there are many horror storys, but it is worth the wait!

Dont get telkom marconi router or telkom ISP, rip offs!
 
I got the Telkom Marconi Router for free, so I'm gonna give it a bash, see how fast/well it operates then I will consider buying a new better router it it's not up to my standard. As for the ISP, I will probably use Telkom for the first month or two to see how things are and then move over to Axxess and get 10GB, yay !
 
mine took little over 2 weeks.

If I didn't phone them non-stop, it would have taken a lot longer!!

PHONE PHONE PHONE!!!
 
I ordered last week monday, they 'say' theyre going to phone tomorrrow to book an installation date.. *sigh*

3 weeks.

It's getting more difficult these days tho - lotsa horror stories because Telkom are too busy counting their 6.8 billion beans to bother spending any of it on upgrading the network to allow for more ADSL line conversions.

Wunch of Bankers that they are ! :D

mine took 18 months but thats another story
 
21 days, RIGHT!

Don't let the 21 days fool you. I placed my order on the 18th of April and telkom only processed it on the 28th.
And if there is no DSLAM port available, you'll just have to wait. It took them 7 weeks from date of order to install my adsl line.
I phoned every 2nd day! So yeah, phone, phone, phone!

Eish chronic, if it took 7weeks of you phoning them, how long would it have taken if you hadnt?

Im starting to think phoning doesnt help at all... Sorry but I reckon they do it as to when they feel like it :(
 
Dude, get out while you still can. I waited 2 months, and did not even get what I asked for. My advice would be to ask around here what other ISP's you can use with better capping options. You will anyway have to wait because no matter which ISP you use, you will still need to use the Telkom lines
 
Applied online on 14 Feb 05. Installed on 30 May 05 after countless phone calls. Is this a record ? Is there a prize?
