My cousin applied last saturday to MTN for a new contract. Tomorrow will be 7 days and its still not approvd:mad:
How stunning is that!

That is not normal. Not sure how MTN works....but we credit vet you on the system. The system then checks your ITC profile. If you are clear and have a good rating, approval is issued immediately by the system. If it picks up anything fishy on you, it will be either declined or set to "pending" status. In that case your docs needs to be uploaded on the system to the New Business dept. Turn around time for a decision is 24 working hours, but often the result is known in a hour or two depending on the q. 7 days is not acceptable.

the lady said the system is still showing 'pending' - so maybe its was something fishy that it picked up, but why make the customer wait 6 days without letting him know whats wrong.
needless to say, he cancelled the application, with some choice words

I applied for a contract on a Monday, they guy said by Friday i should be approved an i'll get my phone. I waited till Friday, he said Monday, i went on Monday he said Wednesday, i went on Wednesday and he gave me some BS story that i wasnt approved but because they know the bank manager i will be approved but it will take longer. I told the aHole to cancel the application.

Almost 2 weeks later i get a call from MTN saying my phone is ready for collection. Now i was shocked, Pissed off and confused. I thought i might aswell just take it. But it was not the color i ordered.

Then waited another week for MTN to get me the right color.

What rubbish.

So watch out when you cancel it, make sure they do it.

sent them a fax, kept the report & called them to confirm that they received the letter, they can try :)

You should take this as a sign that you shouldn't go with MTN - if I had been less forgiving with all the stuff ups they made to get me my phone, I wouldn't have had to spend the last 23 months suffering the idiocy. Thank goodness I can cancel next month.

I had the opposite experience. After I applied I was approved and had my phone within two weeks. I had tried the MTN stores before, but they where a huge 2 month waste of time.
u see, we are used to crappy service. Two weeks, I can walk into a Virgin Mobile store & walk out with a phone in 30 minutes.

I can confirm this. Vodacom took less than a day to approve my application.

Vodacom approve within 15 minutes usually. MTN do take longer although when I applied, I faxed my app to the store and the SAME afternoon my phone was ready for collection. I have heard at times there is a backlog of applications.

I got my phone, hours after being in the MTN store. Like I went at 10 then at 2 I collected.

I guess it all depends on the person helping you at the MTN/Voda shop.

I applied again online at www.mtnsp.co.za. Got an order order. 9 days passed with no follow up. Called and was told my order number doesn't exist and the consultant said it's best to call to do the application.

This is really absurd..
I applied in store on the morning of the 4'th October..My application is still pending.. wtf mtn

Don't hold your breath - I was an existing client, and a second contract took 4 days to approve, then another 2 days to activate the sim, then another 2 days to sort out the RICA crap...

I have been with MTN since the start of cellphones, and whilst I have no complaints about their network and coverage, their administration and accounts are in a relegation league of their own.

Wait, it gets better..
Just phoned them.. Eish Mr ........ Der was e problem with your application when we submitted last week, we have to do it again

i have been waiting for 5 days for approval! This is ridiculous! My last contract was at Vodacom and I had to wait 30 minutes for approval!
