I am in the 021-919 exchange area and the trunk cable connecting part of our suburb to the exchange got cut by the Bellville Municipality fixing a broken water pipe since last Friday.

So how long does Telkom normally take to splice a cable ???.

It will depend on the availability of the replacement cable. Being a trunk cable means it will carry around 400 pairs (conservatively). They cannot simply reconnect a trunk cable. They will replace the entire section - manhole to manhole. Then the cable jointers have to join, identify and test every pair...

As it is a trunk cable it will receive priority and should be repaired within 5 days.

give or take about a month... 2 weeks if you are lucky...

My line was flooded during the rainy season two years ago... it took 2 weeks to be fixed.
