Hmm, reckless and negligent driving, I know that in EU it's an automatic arrest and court date (usually when you exceed 220 km/h). If companies did have a zero criminal record policy then anyone who has ever been caught speeding will be ineligible for them. I think best thing you can do is talk to them about it, explain it, and see what they have to say.

Speeding (at a speed where admission of guilt is still an option) is a civil offense. Reckless and negligent driving (including exceeding the speed at which there is no admission of guilt) is a criminal offense.

"Reck and Neck" is a serious offence bud

the charge may be, but the actual offense i committed was due to "driving recklessly" between 2 cars during a lane change.

hmmm, this may be where the problem is, whilst the charge is wreck and nec the actual offense (to me seemed not that bad...considering...)
however, again its strange that this has not shown up till now..surely if its an offense its there no matter what? Are there different "levels" of checks that can be done?

I think it's 10 years. I applied for german citizenship after 10 years and they did a criminal record check. I don't actually know if my conviction was still on record - they didn't say anything and I received my citizenship. My friend who applied for Australian citizenship after 8 years had to apply for a presidential pardon before they issued him with a clean record. Don't actually have the facts though!

German ancestry? If so, they probably can't refuse you strictly speaking. It's not like Germans lose their citizenship if they're ever involved in a crime.

It depends on what you would say "minor" is. Some minor crimes will still come back to haunt you, for example: Work Visa applications, etc. You may still get it, but they will ask questions.
I saw how a friend lost a work visa to London in 2009, because of a "minor" bar brawl, that got him locked up for the night in 1997.
