I have an old Vodago sim in my drawer. The number is still active and still has airtime on it. The last time it was recharged was 3 - 4 years ago. How long will it last without a recharge?

Validity - The credit value of this voucher is valid for the airtime window on the voucher from the date of redemption (the date the credit value is deposited into your prepaid account). In the unlikely event that you are inactive (not making, sending or receiving a single revenue generating voice call, data call or SMS) for 7 months, your connection to the Vodacom Network will be terminated and your cellular number and remaining credit will be forfeited. Roaming activity, voicemail retrievals and recharging will be regarded as activity. Calls free of charge will not be seen as activity.

My daughter in Canada just came back for a visit to SA after 12 months. In that time she made no calls or any activity from the SIM as Vodacom pre-pay has no roaming partner in Vancouver.
She did however call her voice mail once in a while, so one must assume that this counts as activity because of the voice mail deposit charge?

So getting one SMS in 7 months would be the clincher, even a wrong number.
What does the "forfeited" cash get allocated as - a donation to the Vodacom Christmas Party or sundry income?

Correct. I seems it does not matter then if you dial into your voicemail or if you dial from the actual sim.

If you dial from the SIM, it isn't classed as a billable call.

Considered as activity regardless. If I am not mistaken, there are ICASA rules regulating this and that stipulates what and what not is considered activity on a cell number.
