In October I applied for ADSL (512kb/s Afrihost 5GB) and sent notice for cancellation to iBurst in November, however I still have iBurst due to the 1 Month wait after handing in the cancellation order so I have it until the end of this month... Unless they skrew something up >.>

I'd just like to outline some of the differences between ADSL and iBurst.

When I had iBurst I had constant 24/7 issues with it. These problems included extremely slow speeds even though I was not capped, Extremely high latency (if I did a trace route to any server I'd get over 300ms on the first hop)... There are also the problems with their 'Customer Service' (they don't know the first thing about internet never mind computers in general). And the HIGH cost for the service, I know many people think iBurst has ok pricing but they do not! If you look at what you get from iBurst and compare that to other internet services (ADSL/3G/WiMax) you really do see that iBurst is FAR behind and therefore their pricing should be less than what it currently is.

There is also the problems with their billing department and cap system.

All these issues iBurst CAN fix... But do they? Hell NO! ... Why? Because they don't give two Sh*ts about their customers.

To put it all together iBurst is a mediocre ISP, if you could even call them that, the way I define an ISP is a service provider that can give you STABLE access to the internet and listens to its customers. iBurst gives shoddy internet and as I said, does not give 2 **** about their customers.

Now, ADSL time... When I placed the line order with telkom it took them less than two weeks to get it up, but I had ordered my cap from Afrihost Before I the line was installed to I could not use the ADSL account for the almost 2weeks, so what did I do? I called their customer sevice, told them what my problem was and they said they'd get back to me. And guess what... They did call me back! and it wasn't just a customer service rep, it was their CEO! He said he'd fix it all for us and he did! instantly! my little problem vanished and I saved a bit of cash, not much but it shows you how much they appreciate their customers.

But more to the actual internet connection. Its great! its only a 512kb/s line but its so stable and so much better to use than iBurst ever was and the latency! OH the latency when I perform trace routes to any server I usualy get around 29ms on the first hop, compared to 300ms with iBurst!

To put it simply iBurst is just taking all its customers around an infinite loop of of asss raping, yes sorry to say it but iBurst has been taking its customers around the bend for years now and its only getting worse.

However with ADSL, even though I have only had it for 2 Months now (with iBurst I had issuses even before it was installed and every day after) I have had NO, 0, ZIP, NIL, NADA issues and the only slither of a problem I had was fixed the same day with a phone call from Afrihosts CEO!

Now I understand that not everybody has access to ADSL, so this is not really aimed at the people who don't have a choice, But for everyone that CAN access ADSL WHY HAVN'T YOU!? OMG! Cost wise its prettly close to iBurst, the latency is AWSUM on ADSL and downloads are MUCH more stable abd even faster sometimes with a 512kb/s line! Would be heven with a 4mb/s line!

So how long are you going to put up with iBurst shoving their finger up where it does not belong? signup for ADSL today!

I will take ADSL if you will tell me how to FORCE telkom to replace stolen phone lines.
Usually they don't give a fig for replacing/fixing lines and their service is nightmarish compared to iBurst (never had to call iBurst, except for activating modem few years ago.)

And also I'll take it if you tell me how to boost speed from 200kbits to at least ~384kbits.

Sorry my experience with them is direct opposite to yours, hardly had any issues with them and I am very happy with them for last 2 years. I have met even worse ISPs than them over the years.

Also remember some people signed for iBurst cause Telkom hasnt ADSL enabled the exchange in their area or other problems or delays with Telkom ADSL lines and therefore they dont have much choice. I would have preferred to go ADSL, but I fit in this category where I dont have much choice as Telkom does not have a ADSL enabled exchange in my area, so I have to rely on wireless broadband and so far iBurst has worked out very well for me :)

iBurst :-) ... When It Works

When it works, you have 1Mbps down, 228Kbps up and 8 Gigs at R599.
Trying to get the same speed and bandwidth from Telkom and an ISP is difficult and iBurst is therefore a value proposition. Yes, latency for gamers is an issue but I do not game. It works for me with mail, web, RDP login etc ... that is it works when iBurst aren't double billing (happened twice), skrewing your bandwidth usage page (happened thrice) or genereally giving you the brush-off. They are no better or worse than Neohell or Telskum, just wolves in sheeps...OK the metaphors just got obtuse so will leave it there as 'my two cents'.: whistle:

Shaun is it true that the static IP's for WoW will be dropped soon or we will have to pay for them?

OT: Iburst is actually ok as long as you dont have to phone the help desk or send an e-mail to them:whistle:

I am pretty happy with iBurst at the moment, I have not really had problems with there helpdesk so far, and they been quick to report my problems and get them sorted. :)

Sounds like the end of Jan 2010 they will be a paid for item.

Had a good run of free statics while it lasted.

Cheers
