Dumb question, I know. But my ADSL User stats say I've used 3 381 477 945 bytes, and the email I got from Telkom says I've used 2.78GB. I can't figure out how those 2 figures match up.

How close am I to getting capped?

The popular usage for a gigabyte is 2^30, but hard drive manufacturers and ppl in telecommunications and such use the SI standard (where one gigabyte is 10^9).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte

How they match up 3 381 477 945 bytes with 2.78GB doesn't make sence to me thow.

People really should start using GiB (Gibibytes) instead of GB.
GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes
GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes

Most ISPs use GiB even if they refer to it as GB so the customer receives the benefit of the doubt.
Of course all of this would be of little concern if we didn't have these rediculously low caps. :(
