Hi All,

Please forgive me as i'm new to all this. I'm interested in knowing how many hits your websites gets? Is there anyway i can check this on my website? Also, how many hits are needed before advertising can ideally be sold?

Install google analytics on our site to track hits etc.
Your host should also be able to provide some sort of stats package.

Depends on who's advertising what...

And rather talk about visitors, unique visitors or impressions. Hits is only there to try and fool people into thinking that their site is busier than it actually is.

Thanks i will have a look into this.

Our advertisers would generally be anyone. Motoring industry, decor industry, food and beverage industry. Our clientele is extensive.

I just have no idea what the ideal rate is to charge for banners/ad space on a website.

Pricing is almost like fishing.. just gotta throw something out there. If nothing bites, drop the price and try again. Finding an industry standard would help though

Indeed! Being in the publishing industry though, it's all very top secret so it's not easy to get accurate information. Unless i start posing as an advertiser and phoning our competitors up. This might prove tricky though as everyone knows everyone in our industry.

Generally sites with a "broader clientele" are going to need more traffic to be able to sell advertising. Sign up for google adwords and see how that goes...

the use of metatags and skill of them to draw search engines helps keep the search of it all on the first page on google search.
Love and huggles

Traffic is indeed key. Right now our traffic is nowhere near where it should be and where i want it to be. Got a long road ahead of me.

Not so much these days. The content, external links, site activity and CONTENT are what add to the page's ranking.

...and SEF urls. ;) (read the thread on SEF urls a bit down)

I use a combination of AWStats (Server Logs) / Analytics and Adsense Impressions to get an idea of how many visits my website gets.

Unique impressions per month sits at around 5000+
Pages per visit is around 7. Which isn't bad... just need to get it going more...

Sorry by adwords earlier I meant adsense... (One is for getting paid to advertise and other for paying to advertise)
