Sigh I thought I would wait for Neotel before getting ADSL...
I detest Telkom, have been waiting for YEARS for affordable internet.
January they said: "consumer products will be available by April"
Then they prolonged it to June.
They said they would do the main cities first. (Joh, Pret, CapeTown, etc)
Then they said only Johburg at first.
Then they said WIRELESS only at first..
Goodness....

I live in Cape Town, and I would like to know when, if possible will I be able to order a FIXED LINE from Neotel.... In what year, what month.
Anyone that know something, please enlighten me...

It seems South Africa may be moving in the right direction (hopefully) but how long before we can actually have some tangeble results. 3 years? 5 years? 8 years? EVER????

We are all desperately waiting for Neotel. BUT most of us have given up hope that they will be the "long awaited saviour" of the Telecom state of affairs.

I am fully expecting to be totally disappointed with their offering. What is even sadder is that a small part of me is suspecting that when they do get going, I will way them up against Telkom and then stay with Telkom.

Don't have high expectations, that way, you wont be disappointed.

If Neotel are really starting this whole thing up surely they would have wanted some business and profit a long time ago. The guys supposedly have debt reaching in the hundreds of millions, maybe even billions. They made this loan to start up their company. Every month goes by and their interest on loan should be getting higher and higher, yet they arent earning anything to make any sort of return on investment in this country. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't see them catching up and Telkom and the DOC are just making more and more barriers to entry as time goes by.

Nothing has been said lately about Telkoms exclusivity on SAT3 expiring either?>?

P.S if I got my license from ICASA yesterday I would have already built one dam tower today!!! Their business model obviously didnt put them in their "ready set go" boots as soon as everything was in place. No my friends I don't like it one bit.

A not so intelligent looking Neotel director was on Morning live this morning.
He said that Neotel has 100 employees now and will be looking to launch a trial in the middle of the year. So this means they are still a long way off.

That's just sad . . . in a pathetic sort of way.

What was sadder was that he was being interviewed like Neotel was a company offering services. He was talking about the youth and how important World telecommunication day is to Neotel.

Really pathetic.

end of this yr Neotel will still have 1 more yr wherein they can't connect to the LL according to agreement with Telkom and Gov. Of cause there is the LLU committee but i doubt they will finish before that date.
