Hey ya'll I'm just wondering .... I've read a couple of threads on how to exceed the nasty 3GB cap ... I'm well into my last few hours of my uncapped period ... :D ... BWmeter now reads @ 4.6 GB's [ 3.4GB Dwn 1.2 GB Up ] and still going up ... I would like to know what's the highest bandwidth reading one has ever pulled on their single 3GB cap account? ... :D ......

on 512k most leechers would do around 140gig+ a month total bandwidth

of course more than roughly 3gig would end up being local transfers

Clipse, not sure I understand you there ?

I did about 7gig of international last month, not sure how the heck I did it, just that I kept on downloading and downloading - I was keen on getting some linux stuff and the open office "all platform" iso -that's on a 384 connection.

It seems to me that you've got more than 24 hours to go past your cap, depending on varying circumstances. Disconnect just before you hit 3gig, reconnect and download like crazy seems to be the order of the day.

Ok, today is the 5th, on the 3rd, I did a combo of 400mb upload and download - the 3rd still reads 37.5443 MB d/l and 4.2856 MB u/l respectively.

Don't ask me why, or whether that download amount will reflect tommorrow - the bandwidth monitoring is very odd.

Just as Clipse said, there are individuals that could (and do) do about 140GB per month on 512K ADSL (that's down and up combined), and as he said, about 137GB of that is local.

Ok, fair enough.

They are obviously on DC++ or something similar and don't have a life :D

Seriously though, that's just stupid madness - 140GB is over 200 CD's of data - you could fit more than 200 movies or tv shows into that much data, which would equal at least 200 hours of viewing. That's over 8 days of video.

ah well, takes all kinds I guess.

The idea of sharing and downloading for the sake of it strikes me as immature and pointless.

Okay maybe I should have been more specific ... I mean International...... oh wait as I'm typing I got disconnected... my 24 hours have passed ... i've just reconnected I'm @ 4.9 GB and funny enough eMule is still going strong .....

How's does the cap take effect? I know no-one knows when exactly it happens ... do I get disconnected? It's only my second month on ADSL, I'm just happy I've gone way past the 3GB mark ...

Highest so far is 7GB ... well I'll see what'll happen today 4.9 and still going...

Noble ! - man, I'm glad I'm not you - unless you've made alternative arrangements, your going to have 25 days of suffering ahead of you !

I went over 48 hours after my cap limit with full speed - it terminated around 52 hours after I'd reached 2.9gig, disconnected and reconnected again.

That's why I figure the last day of the month thing is BS - I'd rather kill my cap 4 days before the end of the month with whatever I need to download then, if I don't need to download anything, then I don't bother as downloading for the sake of it is really sad.

Well mine better last 48 hours as well ... ;) .... and yep I've got an alternative .... otherwize I wouldn't even dare go through my whole cap in 5 days ... Last month I only spent a week capped and it felt like a year ... :D ..

Oh ..how often does the tracker get updated ..? Cause mine still reads 683 MB's ... would'nt it be nice if the Tracker itself applied the cap ... :D

The tracker is notoriously unreliable, which is ridiculous as it's the only way users are supposed to be able to get an idea of what their usage is. How on earth are we supposed to be able to track our usage if the tracker itself is incapable of doing it.

Typical half-assed Telkom system.

.. @ least their "cap machine" is also unreliable to them ... 5.5 GB and still counting... and to think last month I dn't bother to reconnect after 3GB ... talk about karma ... :D

I just do simple stuff

I have paplied for my ADSL with a 2gb cap (to start off with),

All I do is send emails and visit news sites (no games etc) and now I visit MyAdsl! Will the 2Gb cap be enough for a little surfing?

It should be fine. There's no point paying extra for the 3GB if you're not going to be using more than 2GB and you can always upgrade if you need to.

Correct me if I am wrong here but......

On the 3Gig account you can surf local and send/recive email affter the cap.
On the 2Gig account then after cap no access period. no email no local, nothing.

Thats correct caroper. No more access on the 2GB account after you're capped.

2GB account is fine for those who just check mail and browse - that is until their bandwidth mysteriously disappears and Telkom won't do anything about it. Then you're totally screwed having no ADSL access at all.

:) ...my cap is now in effect, not sad at all, 7.8 GB [ 5.7 GB down + 2.1 GB Up ] from a 3GB account ...

PEACE
