How much DDoS attackers demanded from SA banks

Attackers who tried to flood the Internet-connected computers of South African banks with junk network traffic tried to extort two to four bitcoin from each bank.

This is according to CEO of the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC), Susan Potgieter, who was speaking to E-tv news about the attacks on 25 October.

Obviously just a shotgun approach. If they specifically targeted a large bank here and successfully managed to breach any of their systems they'd know that they could demand a lot more than a couple of bitcoins.

There had been either minor disruptions to online banking services or, in Capitec’s case, no disruptions at all

Have a look at capitec Twitter or Facebook account.
Online banking as well as their apps were unavailable for almost a day.
They have confirmed it multiple times throughout the day

Does anyone remember the local guy who hacked into our banks and played Robin Hood a few years ago? Was a coloured dude...
