What product or service do you want to market. And what is you target market?

This was my reply to another mybb adwords question(http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/598681-Google-Adwords):

Google adwords is something you will learn to use efficiently with time. I have had success with it with one of my businesses but not with the other.

Set a budget that you can afford to lose if you get no relevant leads. Test the waters. See what type of results you getting. You will get scamsters emailing you because you are now more out there, but you will learn in time how to identify a real client from a fraud.

Also, familiarise yourself with the way people in your target area interact. Like for me, my target market is South Africa. And I have learnt to easily pick up when a foreign or scammer is emailing me.

Also make your contact form more complicated. Not complicated in the sense that nobody knows what to fill in, but complicated in the sense that you have drop down menus, more mandatory fields, more specific fields like "employer landline no", "employer name". If a guy really wants to contact you he wont mind the extra hassle.

Dont use too general keywords if you want to target specific clients. So like if you have a mens hair salon in melrose arch, dont use keywords like hair, salon, melrose, tresemme, cut and dry.

Rather use melrose hair, melrose salon, melrose tresemme, etc. Maybe extend it to your other services and surrounding areas.

You dont want a person in capetown searching "hair" to click on your ad. He will likely not be a client, and it will just cost you money. I have learnt to rather get less online queries that are more relevant, than get more responses with less likelihood of converting them to clients.

Also register with google analytics. It helps to see which adwords are working and which not. there are many other cool features of analytics. experiment.

And have patience. If like you say you a dinosaur to computer stuff, then be patient and learn how these things work by experience.

Also, all of this is my opinion. What works for me, might not work for you or your industry. Play around with stuff.

I've also started using facebook adverts. Works in a similar way in terms of targetting specific areas, and their interests. Successful, but costs me more. Also getting the likes isnt where it ends, engaging with your new facebook audience requires effort.

Try it out and see what works for you.

We spend around R1000-R5000 per day, we do get the value out of it, but my feeling has always been since the last few years 2013 upwards google adwords is raping it's clients.

I've used facebook ads with two businesses.
Accommodation:
Targeted areas in South Africa that would pass through the area where the establishment is situated.
Used keywords that out of town people would search for. Like accommodation, malls, restaurants, events, churches, etc.
Used analytics to see which types of people visit the site in terms of age groups, and gender, days of week my site has the most visitors and at what times.
I've gotten the likes, but have been naughty in that I havent interacted with them in terms of posting to the page.
I want to set up a system where I develop content and keep it ready for posting to the page. Photos at events, events locally, etc. I've only recently made the jump to android from bb7, and the fb page manager app is great, for on-the-go photo, and video content posting to the page. Android is great btw, i have been missing out big time.
Also, at the establishment, I want to develop a few outdoor outdoor social areas and prompt guests to take a photo there and like and tag us in the photo, and they can get a free corporate gift or discount on their next stay.

Website development
For my web development business, I have decided to target smaller towns in areas that may not be as internet connected as businesses in the larger areas.
Same as above, checked adwords for gender, age, times of activity guidelines.
Targeted smme type businesses,
Here also, I havent interacted with them as yet. I want to start posting content that my audience would appreciate.

Dont forget the facebook buttons on your websites, and adding a "find us on fb" hyperlink button on invoices, stationery, emails.

OFF TOPIC: Can anybody recommend a good english afrikaans mix predictive text dictionary for android. Its frustrating that words I type in afrikaans get changed to english. I use both languages interchangeably.
Also, an app for accessing forums like mybb. Tapatalk isnt doing it for me.
