In SA we seem to be subjected to NAT and dynamic IP's everywhere. The ISP's seem to have convinced the industry that IP addresses are as rare as hens teeth and as a result are charging ridiculous fees for IP addresses.
I was wanting a fixed IP on my iBurst connection and I found on their site that they want R199 per month for this privilege. Some further investigation on the AfriNIC website and I discovered that the 'cost price' of the smallest and least cost effective IP block is R1 per IP per month.
How can an ISP justify a 20 000% mark-up on something as critical as an IP address?? iBurst are definitely not the only ones guilty of this.
What are other ISP charging for this privilege?
