ok so I game online with my v3g connection. never have issues. so last night it was heck of a windy in Durbs. Connection had good signal, ping was low, but it kept dropping. So I am now curious.

1) does wind affect your connection that much that it basically becomes unusable
or
2) was the network just stuffed last night.

Weather isn't critical as far as Im concerned. Today it was p!ssing in CT and I was happily connected while I drove from pillar to post.
BTW the same applies to GPS, I had full signal most of the time as well. :)

It might have an effect on the tower but not on the actual frequency.

Mountains and buildings are more likely to block a connection.
But I guess if it was really heavy winds.. it could be possible.

Yip, find the same in the outer west areas (Durbs) every time the wind picks up or it storms then I can close the lid on the laptop, strong signal but no connectivity, both the wife and I had problems last night as well.

I had the same problem...frequent disconnects and low 3G speeds...couldn't even get good EDGE / GPRS. I notice this happens when there is bad weather ie. heavy wind / storms.

Yet another sodding reason to get out of Durban then. Anyone remember that saga between Kulula and the PE municipality a few years back? Kulula put up a billboard saying they now fly to the "Windy City" which has always been the nickname for PE. Municipality complained and produced SA Weather Bureau data showing that while PE has the most heavy wind days, Durban has the most windy days. It seems that there is hardly a single day in Durban without wind.

So wind, rates, sutcliffe, etc. I think its time to move to CPT or JHB. More money there at least and better internet too it seems

jah, my main reason to leave would prolly be Sutcliffe, followed closely by weather.
