According to their privacy policy:

Truecaller may collect some of this information automatically through use of cookies and You can learn more about our use of cookies in our Cookie Policy.

In the company’s privacy policy, it also tells its users: “If You provide us with personal information about someone else, You confirm that they are aware that You have provided their information and that they consent to our use of their information according to our Privacy Policy.

Truecaller also just announced that 100 million people use its app daily worldwide. That is a lot of data touchpoints and the ramifications of that data trove being exploited for less-than-positive applications are immense.

So, before you install the Truecaller app, take a minute to think about people whose privacy you may be putting at risk. If you would like to de-list your number from the Truecaller database, click here. If you’ve already signed up for Truecaller, you’d have to deactivate your account to de-list.

it is possible to use Truecaller but prevent others seeing your number, go to settings -> Privacy Center -> Who can see my Truecaller profile?

Imagine the size and value of their database.. They have been hacked at least once before.

Use it in 2016 out of curiosity
I used it ages ago and changed my name to something arb. I'm going to try remove my number from their system and see if that works.

Never tried truecaller to be honest.
If you really want to try it - just to search for others' numbers, go to the website and sign in with a fake gmail account. www.truecaller.com
Even uBlock origin blocks Truecaller now.

Kinda weird when I meet someone with Android and no Truecaller.
What I'm going to do is install truecaller on an emulator, let it read my empty DB and nab it's spam address book entry - then update it every now and then. That way I don't need to share anything with them but get the spam list. Beyond that I have no use for it other than to look up people's numbers when I do OLX / Gumtree transactions - those I do through the online portal, but I may as well use the app on the emulator.

Pixel and Nokia's (and i assume other pure androids) come with their own Caller ID service (googles own attempt) - not as vast as True Callers Data base but slowly getting there i guess

My phone already has keyword spam blocker for SMS spam, and I use Should I Answer? to block calls (Android).

I am registered on the do not call/optout list. So no need for true caller. Also I have requested that true caller remove my number from their database.

Who cares. It works great, but it became a problem when it started severely draining my battery and affecting my phone's performance.
