With regards to pricing between SAT3 and satellite, ordering from Telkom it is cheaper to go via SAT3 cable - ping time is about 250ms to London.
But as sentech has their own Satellites it would be cheaper for them to go via satellite.
As for Mweb and having 40MBps, Mweb utilises the UUnet network and they purchase "tokens" for the UUdial network, Mweb business to UUnet (last I heard) is between 30 and 40% in total. Now imagine the impact this has on UUnet if Mweb would move to, for example IS ...
I spoke to a sentech corporate sales person yesterday (work related) and she says sentech peers with all 4 the major ISP's. Hmmm thats not true as they only exchange local internet traffic via IS and I only find the Sentech AS advertised across the IS network.
I mentioned, that off topic regarding mywireless, sentech should set up peering links with as many local ISP's so that their IS link is not utilised that much, and that when the "we peer with 4 ISP's at the moment" comment came up
