How much is 300K pixels?

No, that is VGA and results in 640x480 pixel images.

The lowest pixel count cameras the were available widely to consumers was 100K which resulted in CIF (Common Intermediate Format) images of 352x288 pixels. The first camera phones used this image format. When buying a cheap 300K or 1.3MP device always check that the sensor's true resolutions is not 100K and then interpolated to 300K or sometimes even 1.3MP.

ah, OK... thanks. So R1300.00 for that kind of camera would be a bit of a rip-off? :D

On BoB or eBay ? Yes most likely.

For R1300 you can get a Nokia 5130 XpressMusic with a mediocre 2megepixel camera built in.

Gary gary gary gary gary gary.....

K = Kilo
M = Mega

You know about computers enough to download 900GB so what's the deal???? :D

True - but with camera's people often drop the P for Pixels when they go below 1MP. Then they start talking about XGA (800K) or VGA (300K) and CIF (100K). With the P missing you might be a bit lost.

I always get Rouxenator and Garyvdh as the same person, I tend to mix them up too. ;)

What ?! We have very opposing views on a few things and even if I say so myself, I am a much bigger 4$$h0l3 than him :p
I mean, I'm the type of guy they give infractions for when I say someone else is going to cry :D
I'm bad like Michael Jackson for pete sake :eek:

:O so you're also a paedophile? AND you enjoy taking photo's (of kids) :O scary stuff man ;)

Yeah but I only use 300K cameras so that you cannot be too sure about what I did exactly...

from my experience, a 4K Texture = 4096x4096, which is pretty big.

never heard of a 300K image....that's a bit......big.

interesting. so what's the final answer?

I Highly doubt that it is anything that large. It is one of those el cheapo Spy Cameras attached to the Glasses. For R1300.00

You can just pretend to be texting and take the same covert images without looking like a fool :D

If its a spy camera, it could be tinier than a cellphone camera and the vga resolution could then apply giving 300k total pixels (307200). Not so sure if this is just way overpriced, I haven't checked out the spy market yet.

For anything in consumer photographic tho, 300k is long dead.

Common lads... a 300k sensor is that found on a webcam or a seriously old digital still camera.
At around R1300 (actually less) one can get a point & shoot with an 8Mp sensor, and
3 x optical zoom.
Bottom line: what do you intend using the camera for ?
If P&S happy shots, then fine, but you will probably outgrow the instrument rather quickly if you need to do more.

By comparison, the standard for DVD video (PAL - 4:3 aspect ratio) is 720 x 576 pixels. Not hi-res at all.
