A small to medium business has asked me to do tech support for them after hours. My current job is not IT related but is in the same field of said business. It also has flexible hours. I don't have any certifications but have just started 3rd year for a National Diploma in IT at Unisa with distinctions for subjects passed including two that were based on the A+ and N+ exams. We still have to discuss payment and I was wondering what a fair rate would be.

Any advice?

Make the price worth your while. You could charge in the region of R350 an hour. Find other companies that do tech support in the area and undercut them just enough that it's not worth your client starting the search for a dedicatede company.

300-450 depending on complexity, but its upto you to decide how much your time is worth
