How much would a slight crimp in a fibre cable affect its performance?

My brand new fibre was installed and started working and it was great, 7 hours later it stops working and my service and broadband light are off on the ONT, then I see a car outside and there is a dude closing my fibre box, I go outside and he says he is activating the ports and it should be working now, this makes no sense to me but I go inside to check. I find my fibre still not working, service light is off but broadband light is on. I go outside and look at the box and the idiot closed the fibre cable in the door so now it has a slight crimp. Now Afrihost are telling me it can take 72 hours to activate.... when it was working properly.

Also, I'm with Afrihost on vumatel, I see my router was DHCP for authentication which surprised me, is that the norm these days?

Morning,

If the Broadband light is on then it means the fibre is fine. The Service light being off is a provisioning issue.

Can you send me your clientzone email address in a pm so I can investigate the matter?

We use DHCP with mac address user mapping on most of our FNOs. Other ISP might use PPPoE for authentication.

Thread is useless without pictures.

Wrong! You can have a slight crimp in a fibre cable that still causes issues. It isn't an all-or-nothing scenario.

@rick9k I'd strongly suggest you get that cable replaced. It can cause issues eventually, if it hasn't already. No need to settle for second best either.

AfriNatic got it all working again, getting 300Mb down and 100 up on speedtest, I'll go take a picture of the crimp just now for interest sakes

Vumatel will only allocate a fault logged by the ISP to a maintenance team if the optic levels are out of acceptable range.

I checked them now. They are perfect.

You're going to eventually have issues...that cable looks slightly damaged.

Not ideal, but it depends how much attenuation it is causing if any, could just be the jacket

What issues can it cause?

Well wait till all these fibres reached the period before their life end arriving, that's going to be a chaotic fun period in future proving/chasing gost faults..

Especially since 30% = ANC cadres now. Should I say "for now"?
