… for a simple page of (for example) employees at a company?

A small, friendly looking database (like a super simple Facebook) with maybe a photo, interests, hobbies etc?

Completely static, no forms to fill in or content that changes dynamically etc..?

Maybe an upload button to get the photos etc? But aside from that, yea … static. Just ball park.

Also hosting & domain would probably be cheap on something like this as even 100 employees at 10MB per profile is only 1Gbit?

Just thinking out loud

Anytime you are uploading directly to the website that's complexity and cost..

I can show you for free how to create and manage this yourself via a bootstrap template.. just get the hosting sorted and let me know..

So even static with an upload button?

I’m sure you can see this isn’t my industry, so excuse the silly questions - but how do websites work with mobile devices, different screen sizes etc?

There won't be an upload button on the site, but you would still be able to upload new photos..

Bootstrap templates are mobile friendly..

So this is what the basic example looks like:

And you can edit this to change/remove elements and or colours of elements pretty easily..

Thanks!

I’ll check it out!

Just grab a WordPress template. Selfhost with Domains.

Or get Notion.so and just create a live page.

It can cost you anything between R1000 and R10000 depending on who you get to do it. how fancy you want it to look and how much your requirements change during the process.

If you want something really simple you can use something like Netlify with static site generator.

You are moving the goalposts all the time 🤨. Now you want responsive too. Mobile optimised is another level of complexity. You don’t want to serve full photos and scale on the client. The backend needs to scale and serve based on the device. Maybe CSS can do that. But jesting aside, my static site != your static site

It’s not that I’m changing - it’s now that I’m clicking I’ll have to load all 100 profiles … just easier if users can :)

Thinking as I go

I made you a template

Thanks.

See, I’m so new that I don’t even know what that code is, what to do with etc. But I’m learning.

I do have another question regarding storage. With many of these hosting sites, you seem to get x storage with it.

That storage is ample for a simple photo or two per employee.

Am I right in saying that the actual running cost of a site like this is fairly inexpensive then?
