How much your second-hand phone is worth

There's a lot of phones for sale on gumtree...
 
I thought getting R1000 for my wife's iPhone 4s will be a struggle. Seems I can get R2000 according to Gumtree.

I'll gladly take it for R1000 (On provision of IMEI number and proof of purchase).
You can get a quad core phone for R1400 new, but they often sacrifice the camera.

People still see them as R3k new though, that's why they aiming at R2k.

Apple and Blackberries kinda instantly lose half their value when used.

Well it say for 3 bedrooms in Centurion, you can rent for R7000 P/M.
Changing it to 4 bedrooms take you to R12500 P/M.
Changing it to 5 Bedrooms takes it down to R9500 P/M.

Yea, I won't be taking these prices to heart any time soon...

True, these figures need to be taken with a pinch of salt as the available data won't give you an accurate figure. Some areas won't have many properties listed so won't be very accurate. The figures also don't take many other things into consideration e.g. for the phones there is no distinction between new and used.

Bottom line for me is that something is better than nothing.

Yes agreed and also for example the iphone 6 probably lumps the few 64gb's in there which pushes the price up a bit.Average for a 16gb is around R8k,but it still gives you a nice ballpark.

Although this is a negative for buyers/bargain hunters as its going to be harder to find bargains now because people will know what to mark stuff at.
 
They fail to realise that people don't always get what they ask for their items. This is going to cause lots of no sales because of people not wanting to negotiate because Gumtree says they can get more.

No, Gumtree tells you what the average going rate is, and if you list yours lower than that, then you're like to sell yours easier.

True, also think the idea of seeing 200 (for example) other offers for the same product you want to sell is going to make you want to sell lower so that it gets sold and quickly too.
 
Demand and supply is the main factor. This is just a guideline but I don't think it will hold sellers to these prices.

Yip, iDevices hold their value exceptionally well. People would even pay R2,500 for a 4s 16GB in good condition.
