So I logged onto my insurer's (home contents, etc) site to verify something on my policy and then by pure coincidence notice that my premium increased by 90.5%! What's more is it's been coming off my account since July.

So I give them a call to find out what's going on and they give me this story about inflation, the replacement value of goods going up, etc. So I tell them, I understand that. My problem is that I was never informed of same, neither via email, nor snail mail, sms, no communication whatsoever.

So I ask them to cancel it the policy and that I'm moving my business to someone else. To my surprise the lady just asked me if I want it cancelled with immediate effect or at the end of this month. Not even a single effort to renegotiate to retain me as a customer.

So my conclusion is they'll try and do things underhand and hope the consumer wouldn't notice; and if he does, brush it off and let him go.

Good riddance.

Surely that's not legal. I would ask them to refund you the money before cancelling. They would have to inform you if the premium is going up.

Ying,

State with immediate effect.

Then by law they must refund you the difference between now and monthend. This is likely to happen by end of Dec.

I did that.

At first I wanted to ask her if she's never been informed how important it is to prevent a paying customer from leaving, but then just thought fsck it and told her to make the cancellation effective immediately.

eish and we just said A&G is bad

i has a broker for you ma se kind if you want
Send me the details, please.

Post it on their facebook and twitter page. Demand the refund the entire increase going all the way back.

Its the only way to get a response & results from useless companies these days.

If you want a reliable broker then let me know.

You can PM me for details.

I haven't claimed yet, but my cousin has. So far 3 claims for vehicle break ins and no issues - no premium increases or complaints and I have a direct line to them via email or phone. Email replies are pretty quick too, often less than 1 hour. So happy I moved off AA and Outsurance.

Thanks for the advice, guys. @jsheed_sa please send me those details.

Out of interest, how many of you guys actually go through your bank statement to see if amounts are being debited as per your agreement with your provider?

This actually opened my eyes to check my statement in an effort to prevent other companies from trying this.

Do this every month, after A&G messed me around many years ago as well...

I also have as few things as possible on Debit Order... most payments are not manual EFT's.

Usually scan through it if I'm looking at it for some other reason.

Actually had an Excel tool a while back where I could just paste in the electronic statement & it would flag anything it doesn't recognize.

Check all debit amounts every month when the SMSes come through, and double-check when the statements come. I can't imagine being unaware of what's leaving my account. Also, always speaking with others to get a comparative sense of who's scamming me.
