Or don't you?

I've been running off a generator since last night after a tree took down some power lines and severe weather hampered overnight repairs and I realised we've really had the thing serviced since we got it a few years back.

A engine should be serviced at least annually, even if not used. Depending on the use, various things need to be done.

With no use, it is recommended that you change the oil and filter and put in fresh fuel. After 60 days of standing the fuel gets acidic and causes internal corrosion. Same with the oil after a long period of time.

With a genie, I'm not sure if the generator side of things needs a service.

We have a service contract and the genie gets serviced quarterly even if it hasnt been used.

Thanks guys. I'll do an oil and filter change and see how it goes. We're going to be needing it once a week until December while they service the lines in the area so I want it to be reliable.
