How Rife is Fraud within MTN?

A few weeks ago I was the victim of fraud involving my MTN account. So far, MTN have refused to provide me with any information on how it was perpetrated. In my mind the only way it could have been perpetrated is from the inside, as all security protocols were overriden.

I did a google search and the number of internal fraud results were a little staggering. So much so, I guess they are no longer newsworthy.

Does MTN do no background checks on their staff before hiring?
 
yip happened to me almost 10 years ago..
someone upgraded my account and took the free iphone as part of the contract.
MTN were beyond useless in even attempting to investigate or provide evidence of the upgrade (either voice recording or written/signed contact).
Think it took over 3 months and an impossible amount of mail and calls to utterly helpless contact centre agents.
It was nigh on impossible to speak to someone with a functioning brain.
I had to keep requesting my bank to reverse the charge citing fraud.
Hopefully your issue is solved a lot quicker!

Cases like these are the reason for them closing the public facing shop at the hesd office. People were coming there to demand answers and speaking to accounts people directly.

They are beyond fkng useless
 
My keyboard wasn't even cold from the above post and a friend of mine had her details changed on her account yesterday and a contract taken out using the new fake details.

What irks me, just like myself, the innocent party has to now jump through hoops like present yourself in store with a certified ID to change your details back, and even provide an affadavit that you did not request an upgrade!

When you ask them for those documents from the scammers to show how they changed your details, well it is like you asked them for the exact date of the next coming!

The fact that this is so rife, is there any case to take to the information regulator for not securing your details? MTN needs to be held accountable as clearly at present, they do not care at all that this corruption is taking place within their organisation.

They appear to be rife with criminals in store.
When I had a sim swap done at their Northgate branch in 2023, my bank account was hacked almost immediately.
Police case taken out, money returned to my account, but still..I will never trust them again.
 
MTN and Vodacom do this because they have millions of ANC moron voters that use their networks who are too ****ing stupid to even write. So they just **** everyone with the same "they are all too stupid to explain anything to, don't bother even trying" .
 
Never had issues on an MTN number. Had sim swo[s done on my VC number more than once. Never even received an apology.
 
In my spare time I like to eat the scraps of body parts left behind on the highway, particularly just beyond gilloolys.

Biltongy by the time I get there but worth the effort.
 
Same thing happened to me. They changed my details and opened new account. They bypassed all OTPs which was sent to me. They have not provided feedback as to how this happened after I reported it.

Reporting was also a mission having to follow up numerous times and submit affidavits.

Seems we are dealing with murdering-terrorists support at MTN.
No real surprise.

Stefanik wrote that she was “deeply troubled” by the bank’s sponsorship of MTN through its American Depository Receipts (ADR) programme because recent reports and ongoing litigation have “revealed MTN Group’s extensive ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the facilitation of funding and support for Iranian-sponsored terrorism”.
