Just going from what you've told us on this forum about yourself, the words beggars and choosers are springing to mind.
 
da more I drink da shallower I become or of the budget is tight 'go ugly early' also works....

Anyway, I am seemingly only able to flirt with and chat to and charm women in sociable situations like braai, weddings, kuierplekke and such, not just random like in the shops or streets.

I'd say the person's personality is more important as that is the foundation of a successful relationship. It's pointless having the most beautiful girlfriend in the world if she is an unpleasant person who just stresses you out. Over time, people lose their looks anyway.

Agreed. But in order to get to want to know someone you need to like what you see first, right?

That woman over there may be the most awesome woman in the whole wide world. But, if I am not attracted to her I won't feel the need to go and talk to her and then I'll never know how awesome she is.

Agreed but.. without some interest you do the other person more harm. What i'm saying i guess is this.. if you ever feel that you settling then you doing it wrong because at the back of your mind you will always have that, 'I can do better but settled for her' thing which is uglier later in life when inevitable conflict erupts.

Hence I don't believe in settling for someone.
 
No. The girl doesn't have to be a stunner (I've been into some "plain janes" with knock out bodies) but if she's got nothing going on, then sorry, it's just no.

The ones I thinks are sexy (as in whole package) are not interested in me, while the ones that are not interesting to me all want me.

There's a girl who I hang out with who exemplifies this. She's below average looking (to me anyway), but is a nice person and we have similar hobbies, so she's nice to talk to, but I'm not looking for any sexy time with her. More than a couple of times she's asked me out, or invited me back to her place, and it's so awkward when I have to make up an excuse and try to not hurt her feelings...
