So this has now happened to me, my Dad and I have heard many other people tell the same story.

When you cancel a Telkom contract or month to month service, you are required to send a cancellation form.
But Telkom never actually acknowledges the cancellation form until you kick up a fuss on social media, and by that time several months have passed of billing, which can run into several thousand Rand of additional Billing.
Telkom then promises to "give this back to you" in the form of a credit on your account.
But of course you have just canceled this account so there is no way to actually use it unless you resume services with Telkom.
In the end the credit just disappears and Telkom gets away with stealing several thousand more rand from you.
Multiply that by all the Thusands of people cancelling with this pathetic cancer of a company and you can imagine the wholescale theft going on here.

I just get the bank to reverse every debit that came from Telkom after I had sent them the cancellation form. They kept trying and I kept reversing, until I just asked them to kindly stop billing me as I was tired of reversing every month, it stopped.

Just ask them to pay it out to you in your bank account

you right about that, stealing money is a understatement.

cant they give you credit back as a gift voucher? and you can buy things at a telkom shop?

or better yet give back the credit as something else?

is it similar to a no cash refunds policy almost?

so either you get a different product, or credit to buy something else?

why dont you just pick something else then? I mean buy a telkom prepaid sim and load what you had onto it as credit?

Thanks for this. If push comes to shove, I'll do the same.

We paid every month. ADSL (& by default) landline.

Cancelled & got confirmation of cancellation via email the same day as well as by SMS both saying the same thing: "We hereby acknowledge receipt of your fixed line Consumer Contract and Services Cancellation/Retention Request. A service consultant will contact We hereby acknowledge receipt of your fixed line Consumer Contract and Services Cancellation/Retention Request. A service consultant will contact you within 21 business days to verify the information provided and/or confirm cancellation/retention options available."

Of interest - if you migrate from ADSL to openserve fibre there is no 1 month cancellation period. The charges are Pro-Rata from the day the fibre is activated.

They kept on sending me bills until it got handed over to collections (4 months later), who were super efficient & sorted the whole saga out in 2 or 3 days.

Make sure you include all the required documentation. That is the form, recent telkom account and copy of Id.
I sent them the same mail with documents once a week for 4 weeks,
I ignored all accounts i got until the final one after about 2 months. That one reversed the other months. and I only paid another R60 to settle everything.

I paid by EFT so I just paid for the last month even though I unplugged everything and did not use any service, still had to pay the cancellation month.

Yep, thats exactly what they've done to me aswell.

Sent mine in for cancellation September 2017, got a confirmation mail. Done the next month as advertised.

My cancellation went through last month.

I agree with the above post stating that you should then block the debit order. When this appears on credit bureau then log a despute including proof of form sent.

Shouldn't be the norm though.

Block the debit order and stop paying them the month after you sent in the cancellation...

The payments department get in touch with you in quick order and you just forward the automated email acknowledging receipt of the cancellation form.... its legal proof that they have received it so cannot say they didn't... they will then just credit all the invoices that they think you haven't paid... no money lost.

Actually, I canceled my line and got "credited" with something like R125. They asked me for banking details and, yes, it was refunded.
