If you thought England's bowling was impressive at Trent Bridge in the third one-day international against New Zealand, cricket fan Chris Newell took the quality to a whole new level.
Set the task of hitting three stumps, then two stumps, then a single stump in three balls in a row, Newell succeeded to take home £50,000 in front of a roaring Nottingham crowd.
The 50-year-old Yorkshireman couldn't hide his delight in front of the 16,000-strong crowd, and already knows what he'll spend part of the money on.
'(My wife) was in the car when I called with my two sons. They were all cheering and screaming when I told them.
'I’m originally from Yorkshire so I guess there’s a bit of the old Fred Truman in there somewhere. My boys both play for Herefordshire and I’ve been watching them to pick up some pointers. But I’ve not played properly for 20 years.'
The challenge was hosted by 5Live's Mark Chapman and Newell's extraordinary feat was made all the more remarkable as he bowled a yard short of the crease, fully 21 yards from the stumps.
And the lucky recipient of the cash is clearly superstitious, he declined a new ball for the decisive attempt after his first and second shies hit the target as he used the same cherry for his final effort.
When asked what he'll do with the money - which came courtesy of match sponsors Stowford Press Cider - the answer was purely cricket related.
'A family holiday. If we can get tickets we’ll go to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test at the MCG later this year, but if then the Caribbean.'
After Newell's achievement Michael Vaughan said on Twitter that that Australia have fast tracked him into their squad.
'Well being from Sheffield like Michael I don’t mind what he has to say. With the first ball all I wanted to do was try and hit the stumps, then I just wanted to repeat that with the second.
'When it came to the third I don’t know, I was in a dream. The crowd were really helpful and with that third ball I wanted to do it more for them than for me.'
