How the weak rand has affected SA tech prices

The rand's weak performance in 2020 has heavily impacted the cost of importing tech from around the world into South Africa.

The currency's value against the dollar has dropped by around 25% since the start of the year, when it was trading at just under R14 to $1.

Lockdown didn't help. Not the virus but this heavy handed lockdown.

fear for worse. gooovernmmmennt don't care. country labeled as junk

Mustek have some off the best service if seen. Never had a complain and when I ask for a quote I get a reply in minutes.
Hahaha sure buddy....

Guess you support frontosa IT in that sense too?

Lets see if they adjust the prices back if/when the ZAR recovers.

The whole attitude of the government will have to change for that recovery to happen.
I was hoping for Rand strength, then dollar weakness .... but theres little to strengthen the Rand, and with the stimulus checks and US economy opening faster than SA along with folks hedging ...... well that US$ is doing ok.

So, vasbyt for a while :)

Just a minor, albeit important, correction to the writer: ROE in this context refers to “Rate Of Exchange”, not Return On Equity.

Wow - that's a funny way of saying Exchange Rate :D Almost as if the writer/quoted person just wanted to throw in an acronym to sound clever.

From now on I'll keep checking my Rate of Interest (ROI) rather than the interest rate on my account as well as the Rate of Electricity (RoEl) from Eskom RoEE :)
