  • My parents are planning to cancel their Telkom ADSL and telephone account ... they already have Afrihost fibre.
  • They want to keep their existing Telkom e-mail account.
  • Apparently Telkom does allow this for a fee of R15 a month.
  • They are currently accessing their Telkom emails through Zimbra webmail (no local client program is installed or used).
  • During a previous Telkom cancelation attempt a rep told them that they should first back up their emails otherwise all will disappear after cancelation and after the e-mail service has been changed.

How do you backup emails in the Zimbra webmail interface?

just use imapsync to a gmail
I can second imapsync - it's a relatively painless procedure if you comfortable with command line tools (I've only ever used it on linux, but see there's a windows exe as well with the same command structure). You can use any mailbox that you have control over/access to doesn't just have to be gmail.

Install Thunderbird, load both her Telkom account and Afrihost Fibre email address (password is the clientzone password).

Drag all inbox items to Afrihost inbox, do the same with sent.
