Hi,

Does anyone know how to bill for time based services in Magento?
I need to be able to invoice a client for stock as well as time - i.e. installation and consulting time, which will differ from client to client. I have tried to search this topic on the internet but can't find anything useful.

Hopefully someone here will know how?
Thanx!

Google " magento variable price product " and it will give you a few leads

Thanx I have look into that but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I need to, at the time of creating the order, be able to insert a line or two with custom text, which I type in at that moment, with a price associated to it.

The methods you suggested means I first have to setup the product, with all the possible variables and then add it to the order. The problem with that is, that the billable time is for installations - which be be unique on every order, i.e. time spent, location, equipment used, tasks performed, etc.

Have a base product with your rate. Custom field with comments about actual work done?
Add quantity to amount of hours spent during install.

Sounds simple?

Thank you! ;)
Quite a simple solution indeed. Other applications allow you to add a custom line entry on the invoice and give it a price. I was looking for something along those lines, didn't think of just adding a custom field for comments.

Now I just need to figure how to encrypt the PDF VAT documents - SARS requirement.

Yay! Want to do the encryption in Magneto?

Ok, so this solution doesn't quite work as well as I hoped it would and I'm looking for another option, please.
The problem wit this is that I need to create many dummy products which can be used for the base product, and then give the description. The problem I have with this is that it doesn't look quite as elegant on the invoices, and many dummy products need to be created.

For example, a custom battery cabinet was made, with extra meters and attachments. i.e. this product won't be used for another client. So now I have a base product called "battery cabinet", and then when you add it to the order, give a detailed explanation. One the invoice though it only shows "custom battery cabinet".
Along with it was some wiring, some tools, an isolator and change over switch so I have a product called "misc Supplies" and added these.
Then in another instance I have custom made solar panel brackets and used the "misc Supplies" product again and gave an explanation.

So now when you look at the invoice, there's 3 line items called misc supplies, one of which cost R20,179.80 - how would one explain that to SARS on an audit (this is for a VAT Vendor, so audits will happen).

Is there another way to be able to dynamically change the product name / description, when adding it to the invoice?
