Went to MTNDirect a month before the 24 month end to stop my contract as it was my daughter's phone on MY account and she has moved to the UK.
(I have my own phone so don't need hers as well.)

Now 3 months later I am still been charged R83.00 for R75.00 airtime.
The contract is not in my name but the bank account is. The chick at Longbeach Mall told me that I cannot cancel it as the contract is not in my name.

Good grief, the contract was canceled by the contract holder 3 months ago.

What to do? Go to HelloPeter?

Go to your bank and put a block on the debit order. It lasts for 3 months. That's what I did. They get charged if it bounces.. which kinda forces them to see which account it came from ;)

I don't think you can stop a debit order unless you go through the company getting the payment. (unless you close the account I suppose).

There has been a change in the way contracts are terminated as well, now that the Consumer Protection Bill has been passed into law. *goes to check*

Unfortunately that Act will only become law, and hence enforceable, in 12 - 18 months time. The Bill has been signed but until it is Gazetted, it is not law.

The reason is that there is much legislation (that will underpin the new Act) that still has to be put into place.
