Sorry if I mislead anyone, this is not a guide. If you want a guide on how to successfully cancel your ADSL, the one from fibretiger is quite good. (Although I'm seeing now that the mailbox doesn't work anymore)

I used the fibretiger one, and was pretty amased. Cancelling your Telkom line was a breeze. Get the form, fill in, submit with your ID and voila. I got the receipt confirmation, then a week later a phonecall confirming my cancellation date 31 May (and also trying to sell me LTE, like no thanks).

Now the problem, my billing cycle runs from the 9th to the 8th of each month, so when i paid my last invoice, i also paid for 1 June to 8 June and would need to be refunded. I wrote off that money in my mind.

Low and behold, i get an invoice in my mailbox on Friday, and to my amazement they prorata credit me for 1 June to 8 June. This is a dream, right? BUT, oh man did i premjack on that one. A random "Notification Fee" of R443, which not only cancels out my refund, but results in me owing Telkom another R290.

I forwarded and complained about it to the Telkom hellopeter mailbox, and await their response. Luckily I didn't sign a debit order with them, for this exact reason. I'm not paying, but if they don't correct this I'm anticipating a debt collector calling me in a few months.

Wth is a notification fee??

Just when i thought i managed to dodge this cancellation nonsense, i have now entered the telkom billing hunger games...

Even when you "win" with telkom...you still lose ;)

Did you have any luck finding out what it is?
I see I have now been charged a "notification fee"...

Gosh only saw you're question now. So no, Telkom did not give me an answer of what it is or why it was added to my bill.

Essentially I got off unscaved due to not having a debit order.

I logged two tickets to Telkom, firat being HelloPeter. No luck. Got the next bill and was being charged interest for being in arrears on my acc. Phoned the call centre who said they'd sort it out. Cool. Next bill came - more interest. Lost my **** at that point.

What saved me was a very knowledgeable person on their web chat support thingy... don't know what it's called. Explained what happened. Said I'm being charged interest. They need to fix it. Lady said it's fixed now, asked her again, are you sure, she said yes 100% it will be removed. Next bill came, they owed me money again which I wrote off and haven't gotten a bill ever since.

All lived happily ever after...well some people do.

Thanks for the insight. I'll see if I get another bill. I did follow up on the web-chat opened a case or something and got a ref. So we'll see....

I cancelled a few months ago and just got a bill with this "Notification Fee" on. Phoned billing department and they told me it is a credit (they owe me). They asked me to email banking details so that they could do a refund.

If it's a credit surely it should have a negative sign (-) in front of the balance on the invoice?
