How to check balance on data only sim

I bought a new data contract and the sim is now in my office router. I want to check the data usage daily but if I try to check with the MTN app it requests the OTP via sms which I obviously cannot do. The useless call centre says I have to take out my sim daily and insert it in a cell (from the router which is not possible as it will mean down time).
Surely there must be an easier way?

Regsiter on the mtn website. You can link your number and then log in anytime to see your balance from anywhere

Download the MTN app onto your cellphone and register the number.
You will have to insert the sim into a phone to get the OTP, but this will be once off.
Then check balances on the app

There is a way to link the other number but I forget how to do it. Maybe give mtn a call and ask them to link it to your online profile.
