How to connect Samsung Tablet to HP printer

Good afternoon folks

A family member asked me for help. They have the following hardware:
- Samsung Tablet 2 7.0” (with SIM & MTN data bundle)
- HP Deskjet 3050A (Wireless)

How do we get the tablet to print to the HP?

Up until now I've tried to use a Duoplus 300WR modem/router but could not even get the tablet to find the router – presumably because it is not connected to an ADSL line?

Some reps suggested we download the HP App then it will print directly to the printer. I doubt this since the printer is not wireless direct.

We also have a Neotel modem (Axess tel cdma 1xev-do rev a). This time we manage to setup a wireless network and the table connected to it. BUT now the tablet either connects to the router OR 3G, not both simultaneously.

Does anybody know how to setup the hardware so that he can still access the internet/email from his tablet plus print to the HP?
 
Check that the printer is ePrint enabled.

Even if it's not you can probably still use Google cloud print.
 
Maybe I wasn't clear enough?
- The printer has wireless capability, not wireless direct
- The Neotel modem does not connect to the Internet (the tablet connects directly to the Internet).

To find and download a HP ePrint app is not the problem. The question is, what then ....?

Ok, with the Axess modem/router we should be able to connect the printer to the WLAN, which in turn connects to the tablet. But here lies the problem, when I've done that, the tablet disconnects from the Internet. ... I'm missing something here.

With my laptop I use a dongle to connect to the internet plus I can connect to an Internet connected WLAN - simultaneously. But that is i) on the laptop and ii) its operating system is Windows 7.

That doesn't make sense

As long as they are connected to the same (wireless) network yes, Wireless direct is different

Ok, so from what you've said sofar, they will need a WLAN. There is no way the tablet can print to that specific model of printer w/out going via a local wireless network?

The Axess modem/router is suppose to act as a router only - there is not contract/bandwidth.

It could,but the printer needs to connect to the internet to be reachable because it isnt wireless direct

Aha,understood,this is by design though,the "router" bit is the key,it's set to route traffic somewhere outside. Access points however only act as wireless bridges

Mobile devices are set to prioritize Wifi over 3g connectivity. PCs prioritize dialup style connections over network connections if the LAN cannot route the traffic

So really you one problem with two symptoms,no routable internet connection on the Lan(Wifi) which takes internet down and you can't print to the printer
 
Thanks PsyWulf for taking the time to grind down to the issue ie "one problem with two symptoms". For the first time I feel there is hope ... provided their is a solution for such a problem.

Right, how do I instruct the wifi not to connect to the Internet? Because imho that would create the wireless bridge plus allow the tablet to happily stay connected to the Internet via its build in 3G.
 
Would have to check if the router dhcp can have a blank gateway assigned
