So my vodacom contract is due for upgrade, but I'm still happy with my phone.
Thing is though that my contract is way bigger than I need, so essentially want to downgrade the package I'm on.

Is there a way to, downgrade contract without signing a 24 month contract? Like downgrade to a month-to-month smaller package..

Any ideas?

Reason is I'd like to keep the "upgrade" on hold should I decide to get a new phone in a years time.

Why dont you ask them to put you on pay as you go now. Then get a contract if and when required.

They have top up contracts without a device that give you all the minutes and so on but are MUCH cheaper than contracts with a device. Just go into the store and find out what the options are.

But that doesn't leave him the option to upgrade and get a new phone 6 or 9 months or whatever from now..

@SAguy if your current monthly contract price includes device fee, that will fall away when the 24 month period is reached, effectively decreasing your monthly cost..
