I have bought a new pc, and the store told me that they cannot get windows xp from the suppliers anymore.

Someone told me the i can downgrade to windows xp.

Does anyone know how this works and also how to do it?

The store gave me windows 7 pro and i want to downgrade to windows xp pro.

Now why would you want to go and do that?

[sorry, no advice here]

Formatting the your hard drive will be the only way. Backup all your stuff that you want and format.

Why would you want to do that anyhow? From Win7 to XP?

If you still have an old xp disc lying around just go ahead and install that alongside your Windows 7 installation or over it if you really don't want Win 7. An even easier way: Win 7 comes with an xp virtual machine, just use that

You must have a legit copy of XP with serial number (the irony :D )

Perform a fresh install of XP.

Select activate by phone.

Call: 0801 434343 and select option 4 (yes there is not option 4, but keep pressing 4 till you get an operator) Give them your installation ID and explain you are downgrading to XP and they will give you an activation code.

Done.

I've used it to downgrade to XP at least 50 times already. It's the right number.

Two very good reasons to keep windows 7 then in my opinion. The company website not working in IE8 (have you tested other browsers like FireFox?) means that if it's not an internal only website, you are going to have more and more customers not being able to access your site. As for the Anti-Virus... surely the R100 or so to upgrade / switch should be worth running on new software that pushes you forward, rather than back.

Of course, i'm not in the situation, and suggestions from someone on the internet that are off topic to start with don't really help much. I'm just surprised I suppose. Good luck with the downgrade.

The microsoft number (0801434343) does work, but the indian dude told me to call this number (0860225587) and they will help me.
The website we use is company website that we use to lookup service manuals, service history, ordering parts, lookup claims etc.
And toyota emailed me a list of computers requirements we need to met.
I will phone microsoft again 2moro.

Were you on the activation screen with your installation ID (i.e. blocks A - F with 6 digits in each)? They usually ask for the first 6 digits before continuing and validating install.

Right... in that case it's internal, so disregard my comments:P

Support on XP ends 2014 AFAIK. I wouldn't...

Nothing wrong with XP, after all these years all the bugs are sorted out. Seeing the company is Toyota they will have their own migration policy. 4yrs is a long time in IT.

It feels so primitive! To repeat the 2nd poster: why would you need to downgrade?
