You need to have a lte simcard. If you are on contract then you need to do a sim swap at a MTN store.
If you are on prepaid you can pick up a lte simcard at checkers or a MTN store. Look for a small red LTE sign on the staterpack.
If you have a simcard that says lte or 3g on it then you can call 808 for contract or 173 option 0 for prepaid and ask them to activate the lte service.
LTE works well and is well worth it to activate it if you have a supported device.
As per cavedog, the sim needs to have lte written on it.
Your sim also need lte enabled by mtn, and even if you but the sim with the lte branding it isn't enabled by default. Very silly.
Then on your ipad just turn on lte. You need iOS 8 to force lte on mtn network as it isn't approved, but works great. If you on iOS 7 or lower you cannot force lte on unsupported networks.
Yeah I know very silly for them not to activate LTE automatically. I see now that MTN prepaid LTE simcards are popping up in Checkers,Shoprite,Boxer,PicknPay,Jet and Edgars.
Those simcards albeit LTE compatible simcards does not have the LTE service loaded. You need to phone 173.....
