How to ensure your tiles are level

So you want to tile your kitchen but you don't have a laser to get all the tiles level?

Here is an easy and cheap solution I heard about.

Go to your local hardware shop and buy 1/2 inch see-through pipe fill it with water 1/2 way. Now when you hold both ends up above the line of tiles the meniscuses will line up.

You can use this to check lines that you made or to place the tiles.

Well with a spirit level you would have to draw a line. Where with the pipe you can fix the one end and quickly check each tile by lifting the other end until both meniscuses are matched with the original tile and the next one.

Also in complex corners and bends the pipe works wonders.

Yes, pipe levels are great if you need to for example hang a couple picture frames on opposite sides of a room. Use it to make sure they are at the same level
