I use MS SQL 2000, viewing it through the SQL 2005 studio.
I'm "missing" a database, I say missing because either the database was deleted or it was renamed, if it was renamed it is one of 3 databases but I don't know which one.

How to find who deleted it or if it was renamed? Thanks.

I could be mistaken but I think that there is a transaction log in the master database. I haven't used MS-SQL in over 2 years so can't remember exactly.

How did a user or pc have admin rights to rename or delete a sql database in the first place?security not up to scratch?fix that first or it will happen again

you gona need database specialist to take a look at your problem.most probably take a physical look at the sql files.
Where is your daly or weekly backup?
maybe easyier loading backup and doing work over?how sensitive is the work.

lol FUNNY PROPHET.....
ever thought what would happen if u lost 600 people's time and overtime clockings for a whole week.....
IT FEELS LIKE ARMAGEDDON

I don't.

Why all "funny" operations is done with a proper change request which includes a fallback and backup plan. Besides we all know that we should use for example when deleting a transaction for those typos that misses the where clause ;)

Having kept to those two basic things I've yet to encounter a DB ****up...

People failing to have security and backups hav problems with everything involved with computers.they are lazy and deserve to pay "schoolfees" for their mistakes.the only way they gona learn.I had to do it the hard way.

Thx for replies, the db was deleted indeed, fortunately we managed to recover one that was restored on a different pc a few days ago.

We had to delete databases from our server( 2 make space ), I deleted two and don't remember deleting this one, hence why the need to find out who did it but I won't try to find the culprit.

It's really fkin strange, a backup of the server was done after the databases we didn't need were deleted, I'm not the dba guy.

At least it wasn't a catastrophe.

The users are developers, basically if you have MSSQL on your pc you can delete whatever db you want. Once I tried restoring over a wrong database, thank god it was in use which prevents editing a db.

SQL Server Management Studio has an SQL logs. You can also check if something in Windows Event viewer to give you clues.
