As far as I know, you still need a redundant voice line to have an ADSL connection in South Africa and that costs about R 140.00 per month.

What is the best way to get the line installed? Without paying about R 600.00 for installation?

Get one of the closer plans for the first month with adsl, then cancel. Free installation.

It's like R20 extra compared to normal voice

You have to keep the Closer plan for 3 months before you can cancel, IIRC.

Oh... and is it feasible to have Telkom install the voice line, then order ADSL and ask to perform self-activation, saving the installation cost?

How long is that likely to leave me waiting?

Not just feasible, but the best way to go about it. Just make sure you'll be able to get DSL where you stay...

my 2c worth: i went to my telkom branch and was told to apply for a closer 1 plan it is the cheapest and installation is free. once you have that then you upgrade your line to adsl at no cost. I still have all the stuff i got from their 3 month free trial internet so i will just do a self installation again...

If u just looking at getting a Voice service Neotel will be the best option for u, if your area is covered.

Go for the prepaid option No Rentel charges and the cheapest call rates to telkom land line and mobile phones all per seconds from the first second.
