How to get the Old View to be the default for Gmail

Gmail recently updated their web interface but I'm having problem scrolling smoothly with this new view. They do give the option to use the old view which works fine but it keeps defaulting back to the new view when I close Gmail.

Any way to get the old view to be the default one?

Bookmark the address that comes up when you use the old view or change the language to English (UK).

New view is only active if your language is set to English (US).

thanks... my chat has disappeared in the new view and clicking enable chat at the bottom of the screen does nothing.
